Recycling Centres

Norfolk County Council provides 19 Recycling Centres across the county where residents can recycle and dispose of their household rubbish free of charge.

Norfolk County Council is set to make changes to its Recycling Centre service. This is part of our long-term strategy to modernise Norfolk’s Recycling Centre network. This includes building bigger centres which provide a wider range of services to more people. We also face major budget pressures, as landfill tax increases mean disposal costs will go up by £1.5m in 2010/11.

Five Recycling Centres (Bergh Apton, Snetterton, Wells, Wereham and Wymondham) will open part-time from 20th April 2010. These will be open from Fridays to Mondays and will be closed Tuesdays to Thursdays (inclusive).

Following the proposal to close Docking Recycling Centre it has been agreed that the site will remain open 7 days a week in the short term. The service delivered at the site will then be reviewed in August 2010.

Planning permission for a new Recycling Centre in Dereham was granted in June 2010. This is a significant step towards providing a site for the area. We are now hopeful that construction can take place during the autumn and winter, with a view to opening by spring 2011. Click here for the November 2009 news release.

From October to March, our Recycling Centres are open 8am to 4pm, seven days a week, closing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Mile Cross Recycling Centre in Norwich also closes on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and has longer summer opening hours.

Residents are entitled to bring domestic waste to the Recycling Centre in a van or by using a trailer, but may be asked to sign a disclaimer form to declare that the waste is not from a business or trade.
