Health and social care training

A variety of training is available for anyone currently working as a personal assistant (PA) carer, whether employed/self-employed or who those wanting to work as a PA.

Training is provided through Careskills Academy, the Developing Skills in Health and Social Care (DSHSC) project, Norfolk County Council Adult Learning and Skills for Care.

Careskills Academy

Free for Employed PA's / carers who provide support to someone who has their care needs met through a Norfolk County Council Direct Payment.

Online courses available 24 hours 7 days a week on any internet enabled device.

All courses are Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited and endorsed by Skills for Care.

Please note that the Care Certificate courses are not part of this free training offer.

Once you have viewed the available courses, you can register through the DPPS employment services team.

To request a course complete and submit the below form. Our employment services team will contact the PA who will be undertaking the training.

Developing Skills in Health and Social Care (DSHSC) project

This provides fully funded qualifications to existing staff working in the health and social care sector across Norfolk and Suffolk including personal assistants.

Norfolk County Council Adult Learning

This training is free if you earn less than £17,274.50 a year and have lived in the UK, EU or EEA for three years before the start of the course.

You may also be eligible for funding if you don't meet this criteria but do support someone who has their care needs met through a Norfolk County Council Direct Payment.

Courses will be tutor led online courses.

Skills for Care

Skills for Care are now taking applications for Individual Employer Funding.

If you employ your own care and support through a personal budget from social care or health (personal health budget) or using your own money (this is sometimes called being a 'self-funder'), you can apply for funding to train you and your personal assistants (PAs).

Visit Skills for care website to find out how to apply, what kind of activities the funding can be used and links to the application form and FAQs.

Individuals employing PAs for children under the age of 18 using a social care budget are not eligible to apply for funding.
