What to expect on the day of your ceremony

Congratulations on your forthcoming ceremony. Here's a rundown of what you can expect on the big day.

If you're getting married at an approved venue the registrar will arrive 30-45 minutes before the ceremony and then speak to both of you, separately if you prefer. If you're getting married in one of our ceremony suites the registrar will arrive 15 minutes before the ceremony.

This is to check that the details for the registration are correct and to confirm arrangements you submitted with your ceremony choices, such as who has the rings, if anyone will be given away, etc.

After the ceremony the registrar will make sure that you both check through the marriage register or civil partnership schedule and then ask you and your two witnesses to sign. If you're having an Approved Venue Duo ceremony then you'll sign the register in the licensed room inside the venue.

The registrar will then set up a ‘mock signing’ for photographs to be taken. Your photographer will have time to take photos first and then your guests can take their own photos.

After the photographs the registrar will present you with your certificate.

You and your partner will then exit the ceremony room and begin married life together!
