"What an amazing scheme to be able to offer us the chance of being able to work alongside someone like 'D' and then offer him employment as a fully paid member of our team. He is hard-working, passionate, committed, an absolute pleasure to be around and I wish we could find more like him." Owner, The White Hart, Hingham

Case study: Successful employment at NEWS

Our Skills and Employment Team and Norfolk Employment Service worked with Norse Environmental Waste Services (NEWS) to create a 12-week work placement for a 23-year-old client.

Once the client had successfully completed a health and safety induction they started work. Six weeks later we asked NEWS whether a permanent paid position might become available. They agreed and advertised the position and the client successfully got the job in July 2021.

The client is now a permanent paid employee and valued staff member. They currently work one day a week and hope to get more hours due to their commitment and reliability.

"It's important to Norfolk County Council that our services reflect our own policies to provide equality of opportunity, and we very much support NEWS in delivering this on our behalf at the recycling centres. We are really pleased that we have seen two successful work placements turn into paid employment opportunities." Kate Murrell, Norfolk County Council
