Norfolk has embarked on an exciting and ambitious transformation of SEND locally.
As part of this, we are opening up to four new special schools in Norfolk. One of these schools is being established under the Department for Education (DfE) national special and AP free school wave. Other schools are being established using the local authority presumption route.
New autism/complex communication and interaction needs free school
The formal process continues for building and establishing the new school in Fakenham for up to 100 children and young people with Autism/Complex Communication & Interaction Needs. The planned opening is from January 2022 and we are liaising with the Department for Education and await a response on key aspects of the project.
New Special Free School – Cognition & Learning
The process to appoint an academy trust to operate the Cognition & Learning New Special School is now complete with the DfE announcing the successful sponsor later this summer. The school will be located in Easton as a ‘new build’ for 170 children and young people with complex special educational needs.
New Special Free School – Social, Emotional & Health (SEMH)
Full planning approval was given for the demolition of the old school buildings and construction of the new school and accommodation. The contractor has started on site and we are working closely with the sponsor, Boudica Schools Trust, to ensure the first pupil intake in late 2021.
