Market Position Statement
The Market Position Statement is our annual account of the current shape of the adult social care market in Norfolk, our commissioning intentions and the opportunities that exist for growth. It contains a wealth of market intelligence, providing information and insights on care needs across Norfolk, strategic developments, social care spending, the workforce and the priorities for the county’s five CCGs. The MPS is a central component of the council’s market shaping work, and the information it contains helps all the parties involved in adult social care in Norfolk to understand the current state of the market, the work that is taking place across a number of programmes and the priorities for future commissioning that will shape the market moving forward.
Together we continue to face the challenge of rising demand for care and support and ongoing pressure on public finances, so we have strengthened our future commissioning intentions and made commitments to invest new money to help meet social care needs, support people when they are ready to be discharged from hospital and stabilise the care market through the prices that we pay for care and support. We also continue to create opportunities for providers to work alongside partners in community healthcare and the voluntary sector. This year’s MPS also reports on the work we promised to undertake in the previous MPS, ranging from our review of commissioning strategies and working in new ways with providers to supporting provider led partnership approaches and raising the profile of care careers.
This year’s publication of the MPS also sees the launch of our Market Intelligence Tool, a free to access online resource that gives you the ability to dig deeper into the social care market and see localised information to help you plan your organisation’s operations. At the heart of the Market Intelligence Tool is an interactive map that allows you to explore social care needs, health and disability data, demographics, employment information and business activity on a scale that is useful to you, ranging from villages and towns up to district councils and CCGs.
We have worked with providers to make this tool an invaluable planning resource. It is powered by a wide array of quantitative data, and we have developed ways of presenting that information so that it will be meaningful to you. The map functionality has been designed to let you quickly move between geographic areas and levels of detail in ways that will help you to effectively assess business opportunities. All of the information held in the tool has also been presented visually, giving you an accessible snapshot of the care market in Norfolk.
Overall, this year’s MPS is a more interactive document, containing links to a host of websites containing information that will be updated throughout the year. This is very much the direction we intend to take with future MPSs as we develop the format and begin work on co-producing next year’s document.
