Training for personal assistant carers

We offer training for anyone currently working as a personal assistant (PA) carer, or who wants to work as one.  

This training is free if you earn less than £16,009 a year and have lived in the UK, EU or EEA for three years before the start of the course.

You may also be eligible for funding if you don't meet this criteria but do support someone who has their care needs met through a direct payment.

The training is provided through Norfolk County Council Adult Learning. There are various courses, some of which can lead to accredited qualifications: 

  • Employment Rights
  • Epilepsy Awareness 
  • Health and Safety
  • Infection Control - accredited by Gateway to level 2
  • Mental Health - accredited by Gateway to level 1
  • Manual Handling
  • Safe medicine management 
  • Safeguarding - accredited by Gateway to level 1

Each course consists of a three-hour classroom-based session at various locations throughout Norfolk. You can sign up for multiple courses or just one.

  • Norwich - Mile Cross Norman Centre and Wensum Lodge
  • King's Lynn - Involve training rooms, Boat Quay
  • Swaffham - Community Centre
  • Great Yarmouth - Kings Centre
  • Cromer - Merchant's Place
