Qualifications list for early years foundation stage

Practitioners working in settings delivering the EYFS and included in the ratio of qualified staff are required to hold ‘full and relevant’ qualifications as defined by the Department for Education Teaching Agency, formerly the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

The CWDC developed a qualifications list following a review of the qualifications held on the Early Years and Playwork Qualifications Database.  This is now held on the Teaching Agency website. The list is a tool to help employers check whether qualifications are acceptable for registration and regulatory purposes.  If they are not the list specifies the training and assessment that practitioners need to undertake in order to be included in the ratio of qualified staff.

For many practitioners there will be no implications, but some may have to undertake further training and assessment in order to be included within the ratios of qualified staff in the setting.
