Personal education plan (PEP)

A PEP is a personal education plan. It is part of your care plan. Your first PEP should be started within ten days of you coming into care. All school age children in care have a PEP. It is there to make sure you get the support you need:

  • To reach your goals
  • To do as well, or better than, children and young people not in care

Your PEP should be a 'living' document. This means it should be reviewed and updated every term, at PEP meetings with your school and social worker. However you do not have wait for the next scheduled meeting for it to be updated.

Your PEP should be written for and with you. It should set out:

  • How things are going with your education
  • What support you might need
  • How support is going to be put in place
  • Who will provide this support

All information about your PEP is kept electronically.
