What is the role a key person?

The key person is a member of staff in an early years settings who works with an individual child to support his/her development and act as the key point of contact with that child’s parent/carers.

The key person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children.

Who do they work for?

They work for early years settings including maintained nursery schools.

Who is this service for?

All children who attend an early years setting should have a named key person. Your key person is your first point of contact when you wish to discuss your child’s progress. Your child’s key person will work with you and your child to support your child’s development.

Contact a key person

Each parent/carer should know who their child’s key person is when they start at the early years setting. Contact will be made on a daily basis in the setting.
