What is the role of a Virtual School for Sensory Support specialist support assistant?
- Holds additional specialist qualifications e.g. British Sign Language, BTEC Level 3 Working with Children and Young People with a Sensory Loss
- Promotes access to the curriculum for example, differentiating materials and supporting the teaching of additional skills such as touch typing
- Supports staff in settings/schools to help them best meet the needs of learners with a sensory loss
Who is the service for?
Children and young people with a sensory loss from diagnosis.
The LA commissions Virtual School for Sensory Support to provide a service to children and young people with a sensory loss who are in compulsory education, but not post 16. Post 16 providers can commission Virtual School for Sensory Support through a Service Level Agreement, to provide support by contacting the head teacher.
