Family support worker
What is the role of the family support worker?
Family support workers have NVQ 3 or equivalent training and experience and work directly with children and families under the direction of nurses and psychologists to implement agreed plans.
This may include modelling positive praise and responses, social stories and recognising and understanding emotions and feelings.
Family support workers create and build resource libraries and work with children, young people and families to develop social stories/resource making skills for themselves.
Family support workers also undertake standardised assessments of children and young people in school and home settings.
Is the role known by different names in children’s services and adult services?
There is no equivalent role in adult services.
