Join us on this course which provides practical advice on a range of throwing, hand building and glazing techniques with both one to one tuition and group demonstrations. This is a relaxing but productive course focusing on the tactile element of clay. This ‘hands on’ course provides the opportunity to try different methods of making objects in a variety of clays. Learners will explore various techniques including pinched, coiled, slab building, press moulding and throwing. Your Tutor is Andrea Young, one of our experienced Pottery tutors at wensum Lodge
What will I learn
Throwers will be shown the basic stages for creating bowls/cylinders using the potter\\\'s wheel. You will learn about surface decoration; oxides, slips, resist and texture, through to firing. Using the skills gained from practising the techniques acquired, you will be able to unleash your creative side to produce finished clay items to be proud of. As well as the first hand opportunities available throughout the course to have a go at working with clay, there will be demonstrations by the tutor, display material including a variety of books and literature, helpful handouts to use for reference as well as dedicated one-to-one time with the tutor for each learner. A positive group dynamic will be encouraged and you will benefit from the sharing of learning experiences with other members of the group. You will receive regular feedback from the tutor that will be designed to help you improve your skills and knowledge and ensure that you get the best possible results from your course. The tutor will provide the guidance and tuition required for each individual learner.
Before you book
From the experienced potter looking for a group dynamic to the beginner inspired by pottery thrown down. This is a mixed ability class therefore no prior knowledge or experience is required.
What you will need
You will need to provide an apron, notebook and pencil. There will be an additional cost for clay used and firing (dependant on size and quantity produced). To enable all items produced by all learners to be fired in a timely manner, there are limitations on the number of large items each learner can produce. Your tutor will explain this policy further.
