What will I learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to;
• Select appropriate drawing and painting materials to suit your chosen subject
• Select appropriate supports and paper
• Use observational skills to confidently draw proportions, relationships (Intersecting Lines) and scale
• Draw using Contour Lines and Gestural Drawing
• Confidently mix colours to achieve Colour Harmonies
• Understand tints, tones and shades (Colour Theory)
• Correctly observe and record multiple perspective
• Observe and use Negative and Positive space
• Emulate the style/technique of a chosen artist
• Correctly apply compositional rules to create visual balance (Balance, Harmony, Space etc.)
(all at an appropriate level to your experience)
About the Tutor
Rebecca Mills is a friendly and experienced tutor who has experience of teaching a range of creative arts subjects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, digital art and photography. Rebecca has a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design/Illustration and has worked for national publishing houses as a Designer as well as freelancing as an illustrator for many years. Her work is created in mixed media giving her experience of a range of media, traditional and digital techniques. Rebecca is a fully qualified teacher and has taught creative arts to all ages from children to adults and her passion is sharing her love of art with others.
How will the course be taught?
Throughout the ten-week course your tutor will lead you through a range of creative activities and you will regularly produce work that you will include in your own portfolio. To start off there will be structured class activities and over time your will become more independent. You will share your work with the rest of the group in a supportive manner and learn from each other. In between classes you will be encouraged to practice the techniques you have learnt. You will receive regular feedback on your work.
Before you book
This course is aimed at learners who have completed a beginner’s course or have similar skills and knowledge. It would be suitable for people who want to revisit fundamental drawing and painting skills.

What do I need to bring?
The cost of equipment and materials is not included in the course fees, your tutor will advise where you can purchase required resources, tools and equipment. In the first week you will need to bring some soft drawing pencils and an A4 or A3 Sketchpad. You may want to bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes.
Are there any additional costs?
There are additional costs associated with ordering materials as part of this course. Your tutor will be able to give you more information on this once you start the course.

Norfolk County Council reserves the right to change the way we deliver your Adult Learning course should circumstances and/or an event and/or Government guidance and/or regulations require us to do so. We also reserve the right to cancel your course, if necessary, if we are unable to deliver it in an alternative way. If we change the way we deliver your course, and you decide that you would prefer not to continue with your learning, or we cancel your course, you will be entitled to a refund of any tuition fees that you have paid for the sessions that have been affected by the changes we have made.
