Want to start painting, but not sure which medium to start with, or looking to refresh your painting skills? This short-course takes a new painting medium each week, covering the basics of how to get the best results and demonstrating a range of techniques you can achieve, following by the opportunity for you to explore the medium through thematic studies. The course will conclude in a focused session encouraging you to experiment and mix the mediums.
What will I learn?
This course will cover the basics of using the following painting mediums: watercolour or gouache, acrylic, oils.
About the Tutor
Rebecca Mills has a BA (Hons) Graphic Design and has worked as both a Graphic Designer and freelance Illustrator. Her own artwork is created by both handmade and digital methods including drawing and painting in mixed mediums. Her area of expertise is mixed media and digital collage, creating handmade textures and manipulating them by digital methods using Photoshop. She teaches a range of drawing, painting and digital art courses.
How will the course be taught?
This is a practical course, with the opportunity for discussions and exchanges and feedback from the tutor throughout. Alongside practical instruction and demonstrations, you will be looking at historical and contemporary examples for inspiration. There will be an emphasis placed on mutual support and feedback with lively group discussion encouraged.
Before you book
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those with some experience of painting.
What do I need to bring?
Due to Covid 19, we are not providing any paper or shared materials. You will need to bring to class:
- Watercolour Sketchpad – A4 or A3
- Acrylic and/or Oil Sketchpad – A4 or A3
- Acrylic paint – red, yellow, blue, black and white or a set
- Water based oil paints
- Watercolours paints
- Gouache paints
- Jam jars for water and diluted paint
- A set of brushes including flat brush for backgrounds

Your tutor will be in touch in advance of the workshop to let you know if there are any further materials or equipment you need to bring yourself.

Norfolk County Council reserves the right to change the way we deliver your Adult Learning course should circumstances and/or an event and/or Government guidance and/or regulations require us to do so. We also reserve the right to cancel your course, if necessary, if we are unable to deliver it in an alternative way.
If we change the way we deliver your course, and you decide that you would prefer not to continue with your learning, or we cancel your course, you will be entitled to a refund of any tuition fees that you have paid for the sessions that have been affected by the changes we have made.
