Course Description
This exciting workshop running as part of the Creativity and Wellbeing Festival is planned to support your good mental health through creativity. This workshop will take you through the whole process of creating your own textured papers, how to cut shapes and compose a collage from scratch. This course is taught online via a virtual classroom using ZOOM

At the end of the workshop you will have completed a simple collage or two based on a botanical theme.
About the Tutor
Rebecca Mills has a BA (Hons) Graphic Design and has worked as both a Graphic Designer and freelance Illustrator. Her own artwork is created by both handmade and digital methods. Her area of expertise is digital collage, creating handmade textures and manipulating them by digital methods using Photoshop. She teaches a range of drawing, painting and digital art courses.
How will the course be taught?
This workshop will be taught in the Art Studio at Wensum Lodge. This is practical workshop, with the opportunity for discussions and exchanges and feedback from the tutor throughout. There will be an emphasis placed on mutual support and feedback with lively group discussion encouraged.
Before you book
This workshop is suitable for a complete beginner or those who just want to take on a new approach to creating artwork and learn new techniques. What you will learn
You will be taken through some techniques you can use with inks such as wet on wet techniques and mark-making to create lively and delicate drawings.

This workshop is suitable for both those new to inks or those or just want to learn about the medium to enliven their drawing. What will I learn?
This course will cover the basics of using the following painting mediums:
-Watercolour or gouache
-Acrylic
-Oils

Her area of expertise is mixed media and digital collage, creating handmade textures and manipulating them by digital methods using Photoshop. She teaches a range of drawing, painting and digital art courses.
How will the course be taught?
This is a practical course, with the opportunity for discussions and exchanges and feedback from the tutor throughout. Alongside practical instruction and demonstrations, you will be looking at historical and contemporary examples for inspiration. There will be an emphasis placed on mutual support and feedback with lively group discussion encouraged.
Before you book
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and those with some experience of painting. What will I learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to;
• Select appropriate drawing and painting materials to suit your chosen subject
• Select appropriate supports and paper.
• Use observational skills to confidently draw proportions, relationships (Intersecting Lines) and scale.
• Draw using Contour Lines and Gestural Drawing.
• Confidently mix colours to achieve Colour Harmonies.
• Understand tints, tones and shades (Colour Theory)
• Correctly observe and record multiple perspective
• Observe and use Negative and Positive space.
• Emulate the style/technique of a chosen artist.
• Correctly apply compositional rules to create visual balance (Balance, Harmony, Space etc.).
(all at an appropriate level to your experience)
About the Tutor
Rebecca Mills is a friendly and experienced tutor who has experience of teaching a range of creative arts subjects such as drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, digital art and photography. Rebecca has a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design/Illustration and has worked for national publishing houses as a Designer as well as freelancing as an illustrator for many years. Her work is created in mixed media giving her experience of a range of media, traditional and digital techniques. Rebecca is a fully qualified teacher and has taught creative arts to all ages from children to adults and her passion is sharing her love of art with others.
How will the course be taught?
Throughout the ten-week course your tutor will lead you through a range of creative activities and you will regularly produce work that you will include in your own portfolio. To start off there will be structured class activities and over time your will become more independent. You will share your work with the rest of the group in a supportive manner and learn from each other.
In between classes you will be encouraged to practice the techniques you have learnt.
You will receive regular feedback on your work.
Before you book
This course is aimed at learners who have completed a beginner’s course or have similar skills and knowledge. It would be suitable for people who want to revisit fundamental drawing and painting skills. This course is taught online via a virtual classroom using ZOOM. Throughout the ten-week course your tutor will lead you through a range of creative activities You will have the opportunity to share your work with the rest of the group and learn from each other in regular weekly task reviews as well as one to one feedback via our learning platform. In between classes you will be encouraged to practice the techniques you have learnt with a weekly blended learning task or project. You will receive regular feedback on your work.

What do I need to bring?
The cost of equipment and materials is not included in the course fees, your tutor will advise where you can purchase required resources, tools and equipment
In the first week you will need to bring some soft drawing pencils and an A4 or A3 Sketchpad. You may want to bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes.
Are there any additional costs?
There are additional costs associated with ordering materials as part of this course. Your tutor will be able to give you more information on this once you start the course.

Watercolour Sketchpad – A4 or A3
Acrylic and/or Oil Sketchpad – A4 or A3
Acrylic paint – red, yellow, blue, black and white or a set
Water based oil paints

Jam jars for water and diluted paint
A set of brushes including flat brush for backgrounds
