Library service coronavirus update

Borrowing, reserving and returning

Browse and borrow

Follow our one-way system around the library and find the books you want. You can check items out on your phone using the Spydus app or use the self-service kiosk.

Reserving specific books

We're not currently able to accept reservations for individual titles because:

  • All returned items are quarantined for 72 hours before they are re-shelved
  • Some of our stock is being used to create Grab & Go bags, so may not be on library shelves
  • Some library materials are in temporary storage and not available to borrow

In the meantime, you can use our select and collect service to request a selection of books.

Select and collect

You can pre-order a selection of up to 10 books for adults and young adults by using the online form at or call 01603 774777.

Books will be available within three working days (Monday to Friday), or the first day the library is open after that.

You can speak to a member of library staff on the phone line between the hours of 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday,

Grab and Go book bags

Each bag contains a pre-selected collection of books for children of different ages. You can check out the entire bag at once using the self-service kiosk.

We're automatically renewing items borrowed before closure until further notice. You can return items via the drop-boxes or self-service kiosks at each library.  Find out more about using the self-service kiosks.

We'll place returned items into 'quarantine' for up to 72 hours.
