The Developing Skills in Health and Social Care (DSHSC) project ended on 30 September 2023. It was part-funded by the European Social Fund.

It offered a range of fully funded training and mentoring for people working in health and social care across Norfolk and Suffolk.

The project shaped how we continue to work to help develop skills in the adult social care workforce.

What did the project achieve

  • The project helped more than 2.500 members of the adult health and social care workforce in Norfolk and Suffolk to access training and mentoring
  • It offered the following training:
    • Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT training
    • Levels 1-3 on Dementia awareness, Mental health, Autism, Learning disabilities, Parkinson's disease, Diabetes awareness and the Care certificate
    • Level 2 End of life full qualification
    • Level 4 Aspiring managers programme
  • Our evaluation partner HealthWatch Suffolk found over half of participants felt:
    • Their confidence had improved
    • They were more likely to take up future training or education
    • Their training increased the quality of care they can provide
