Children's Services vacancies

Introduction from Wendy Thomson, Managing Director of Norfolk County Council

“Norfolk has high ambitions for its children and young people. We want them to be safe, happy and to achieve to the best of their abilities. Our education standards are some of the fastest improving in the country. But there’s more to do.

I chair the children’s services improvement board, made up of the council and key partners. Our robust improvement plan has received support from partners. By sustaining these improvements, we are confident that our next Ofsted inspection will bring an end to formal DFE intervention.

That is not the limit of our ambitions. We aim to be rated as good, by the time of the next County Council elections. Having secured a majority of County Council seats in the May 2017 elections, the Conservative leadership and chairman of children’s services are committed to achieving this goal. It is one of their and my top priorities.”

Sara Tough, Executive Director of Children’s Services

“I am delighted to have joined Norfolk County Council - I have been inspired by the ambition of the council and its determination to be the best.

I want to share the great work already happening and to celebrate the successes, and now take the opportunity to secure long term stability as a leadership team. I’m looking for candidates who share my relentless focus on outcomes, strong core services and partnership working, so that we continue to improve and make a difference for children and young people in Norfolk.

This is an exciting time to join Norfolk County Council. For the right candidates, these assistant director roles are an exceptional opportunity to make a difference – to end one chapter and to write an exciting new one for our children and young people and their families.”

Councillor Penny Carpenter, chairman of the children’s services committee

"I can promise my full backing for the right candidates, who can support our new director to strengthen and sustain the improvements that we are making.

Our hard-working staff have already made a lot of progress on our improvement journey. For the last three years, our schools have been some of the most improved in the country, thanks to support and challenge from this council.

Our early help services are making a difference. And we’re attracting record numbers of high quality, newly qualified social workers.

If you’re interested, please get in touch - and I’m sure we can make a real, positive difference to the lives of our children and young people."
