Using the self-service kiosks

You can use the self service kiosks in libraries to borrow, return and renew items. You can also check reservations and in some cases make payments.

How to borrow items

  • Press the “Borrow” button on the screen 
  • Scan your library card, by holding it with the barcode facing up underneath the bottom of the screen and above the marked area on the white shelf
  • Place the item(s) on top of the white shelf
  • Wait until the title(s) appear in the middle of the screen in green. If an item appears in yellow, please ask staff for assistance.
  • When finished press:
    • “Print Receipt” to receive a printed receipt of your loans 
    • “Email Receipt” to be emailed a copy of your receipt 
    • “Finish” to exit without any receipt 

How to return items

  • Press the “Return” button on the screen
  • Place the item(s) on the white shelf underneath the screen
  • Wait until the title(s) appears in green. If any item(s) don’t appear, please ask staff for assistance.
  • Once the title of the returned item(s) appears press:
    • “Print Receipt” to receive a printed receipt
    • “Email Receipt” to be emailed copy of your receipt
  • Press “Finish” when you are done
  • Follow instructions on where to place your returned item(s), either on the trolley or in the exceptions box. It's important to put the items in the correct location as instructed, If there’s any doubt, please place the item(s) in the exceptions box.

How to renew your loans

  • Press the “Renew” button on the screen
  • Scan your library card
  • Select “Renew Item” next to the individual item(s) you want to renew, or select “Renew all” at the bottom of the screen
  • When finished press:
    • “Print Receipt” to receive a printed receipt of your loans
    • “Email Receipt” to be emailed a copy of your receipt
    • “Finish” to exit without any receipt

How to check your reservations

  • Press the “Reservations” button on the screen
  • Scan your library card
  • The screen will display all the titles you currently have a reservation for. Next to each title it will tell you if the reservation is still pending or if it's available to collect from your chosen library.
  • If you use more than one library, the kiosks won’t tell you which library you choose to collect it from. If in doubt, please speak to a member of staff who will be able to check for you.

How to make a payment (when available) 

  • Press the “Payments” button on the screen
  • Scan your library card
  • The next screen will show how much is currently on your account
