Stories, treasure hunts and snacks await at a Norwich Library this summer

05 July 2017

Youngsters will be able to feed their imaginations and get some fresh air and a healthy snack at special themed story walks organised by staff at a Norwich library this summer.

Families from Tuckswood and Lakenham are invited to Tuckswood Library where staff will be bringing the magic of stories alive in Harford Park every Tuesday throughout the summer.

Children aged up to six years can enjoy story time in the library followed by story-themed treasure hunts in the park, all topped off with a healthy snack back at the library.

If your child fancies hunting through the trees for the Gruffalo or looking for The Shark In The Park then it’s a must activity for your family.

The project has been funded through a grant from Lakenham and Tuckswood Energise Project through Sport For Change, and is a great example of the innovative way that Norfolk Library and Information Service works with partners to deliver fantastic projects across Norfolk.

“We can’t wait for the Story Walks to begin – they’re going to be so much fun. They’re a brilliant way to introduce small children to healthy exercise in a fun way – while sharing stories as a family. We’re very grateful to the Energise Project for making this project possible,” said community librarian Elena Judd.

Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, Chairman of Norfolk County Council's Communities Committee, said: “This is a great opportunity for local families to take part in a fun and free activity. It's an excellent example of partnership working for the benefit of the local community. Schemes that encourage children to read books at a very young age are fantastic to nurture the next generation of readers.”

Every session will go ahead whatever the weather – so be sure to bring sun cream, hats and maybe even your wellies! Meet at the library at 10.30am. Sessions run every Tuesday from 11 July to 29 August, with additional Saturday sessions on 29 July, 19 August and 2 September.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Call the library on 01603 452038 for more details.

Tuckswood Library is also taking part in Norfolk Library and Information Service’s free countywide annual Summer Reading Challenge. This year’s reading challenge is called Animal Agents.

It is free to join the library and to borrow books, which can be returned to any of Norfolk’s 47 libraries and 8 mobile libraries.
