Improve your core knowledge of apples at Gressenhall Farm this Sunday
11 October 2017
A Gressenhall Farm tradition continues this Sunday 15 October, with the return of the ever-popular Apple Day.
This annual engaging family event educates the visiting public in all things Autumn and apple. Experts from The East of England Apple and Orchard Project will be present to answer any pressing questions.
So if you have apples from the tree in your garden and you’re not sure of the variety, take it along to find out. Find out more about the process of pressing apples for that perfect crisp apple juice – or cider and taste different varieties. Stroll around the orchard at Gressenhall to see the different varieties being grown.
Appley treats include being introduced to the working Suffolk Punch horses that reside at Gressenhall, and the Grand Apple Day Parade at 3.15pm where 30 different varieties of Norfolk apples will be shown.
Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, Chair of the Communities Committee at Norfolk County Council, said: “I’m excited that Apple Day is returning to Gressenhall for 2017. It is always a successful and popular event, highlighting the delights of spending Autumn in our fine county. I’m sure everyone will enjoy their day.”
There will be several live performances and demonstrations throughout the day, with the excellent Klezmerized playing lively music from Eastern Europe, and enjoyable performances from the dancers of Golden Star Morris.
Chainsaw carver Shaun Gilbert will expertly create some stunning sculptures throughout the day, while the Fools Puppet Theatre Company will weave the tale of the Great Wyrm of Gressenhall.
If you’re looking to take home some memories, local producers of autumn produce will be present with samples of their apples, baked goods and chutneys to purchase.
Apple Day runs from 10am to 5pm.
