Mobile library knighted Sir Learnalot in childrens naming competition

27 December 2017

The results are in for a competition to name a Norwich Castle medieval themed mobile library.

Young mobile library users were asked to name the themed van, which has been vinyl wrapped with a castle image, paid for by Norwich Castle.

Imogen, aged 12 from Wymondham was the winner of the competition, jousting the other submissions with her idea ‘Sir Learnalot’, which is now printed on the front of the van.

The medieval theme is inspired by the ongoing partnership with Norfolk Libraries to promote medieval history as part of Norwich Castle’s keep restoration project.

Imogen came to Norwich Castle with her family and was awarded her prizes in front of the van itself.  These included a family ticket for Norwich Castle as well as a family ticket for Norfolk Museums, a goodie bag from Norfolk Libraries, and a bundle of Norwich Castle’s ‘Keep Sakes’.

The Keep Sakes are being sold to make money for the Gateway to Medieval England campaign.

Chairman of Norfolk County Council’s Communities Committee, Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, said:  “We had a great response to the competition and Sir Learnalot is a fitting name for this Castle themed mobile library.  It is great to get children on board with the library service and we hope that this bright look will help it stand out and also remind people of the fine medieval castle we have in the county which they can visit all year round.”

Glenn Durrant, Mobile Libraries Manager for Norfolk Libraries said:  “It’s a superb name, it stood out amongst all the others because learning encapsulates what the library is all about, and with the knight theme it was a clear winner.”

Imogen said she enjoys reading David Walliams’ books, with The Gruffalo being a favourite when she was younger, and that she’ll be looking out for Sir Learnalot when he next visits Wymondham.
