Pre-Christmas opening of next 7.5km still possible on NDR

15 December 2017

The opening of the next 7.5 km of Norwich Northern Distributor Road dual carriageway  before Christmas is still possible.  Thursday 21 December is the most likely day when the A140 Cromer Road to A1151 Wroxham Road section will be available to general traffic for the first time.

The joint Balfour Beatty and Norfolk County Council construction team have agreed that, with better weather forecast, it should be possible to recover from the setbacks caused by the bad weather earlier this week.  The heavy weekend and Monday sleet and hail, followed by a freeze that left the newly-laid surface covered in thick ice on Tuesday, made weather-sensitive tasks and verge works impossible, but conditions are now improving.

Essential work still outstanding includes white lines and road studs on some sections of the dual carriageway, along with verge works and a range of mainly minor tasks necessary to ensure that the road can open free from traffic management and cones.

A final decision will be made early next week.
