Free GCSE taster sessions for adults

08 February 2019

Adult learners across Norfolk are being encouraged to attend open days to find out more about studying GCSEs with Norfolk County Council’s Community Learning Services (NCLS).

GCSE courses in Maths and English will start in September and are offered free of charge to most people who have not already achieved a grade C/4 or above and to people who have achieved that level but more than five years ago.

The three-hour taster sessions will allow people to find out more about the curriculum, style of learning and whether it is the right level for them or whether they should consider some of the other courses available. Tutors will be on hand to discuss the needs of individual learners, find out more about their current level of understanding and work together on a personal learning plan.

“Having GCSEs in Maths and English can open doors to so many different careers and further education courses. Norfolk Community Learning Services (NCLS) offers a friendly and supportive learning environment and a chance to gain qualifications,” said Councillor Margaret Dewsbury, Chairman of Norfolk County Council’s Communities Committee.

Open days are being held at Wensum Lodge in Norwich, on:

  • Wednesday 20 February. Sessions run 10am-1pm, 1-4pm and 6-9pm.
  • Saturday 23 February. 10am-1pm.
  • Wednesday 10 April. Sessions run 10am-1pm, 1-4pm and 6-9pm.
  • Saturday 13 April. 10am-1pm.
