Councillors to quiz utility bosses on sewage discharge incidents

Norfolk County Council, 15 March 2023 00:00

Utility bosses will be questioned about sewage discharge incidents and how they intend to prevent them in future.

Norfolk County Council's scrutiny committee will question bosses from Anglian Water, when they look into the issue this month.

Councillor Steve Morphew, chair of scrutiny, said: "Sewage discharges from storm overflows have been high profile and are thoroughly unpleasant. This gives us the chance to get to grips with why it is happening and what is being done to prevent it in future. It has to be resolved quickly and measures put in place to ensure future developments don't create extra pressure that leads to more incidents because the system can't cope."

The scrutiny committee invited Anglian Water after discussing flood issues earlier this year and councillors expressed concern about the specific issue of sewage and storm outflows.

Councillors will consider the issue when they meet at 10am on Wednesday 22 March. Watch the meeting, live or afterwards and read the reports
