Walking, cycling and horse-riding assessment and review (WCHAR)
Following the submission and approval of the Long Stratton Outline Business Case to the Department of Transport for the construction of Long Stratton Bypass, we are continuing with our programme of engagement events to provide an update on the scheme proposals and next steps.
Long Stratton Bypass falls under the hybrid planning application of housing development proposed by Norfolk Homes/Norfolk Land.
As a requirement for development of a highway scheme of this size, as set out in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) GG 142 guidance, we are developing a Walking, Cycling and Horse-Riding Assessment Report to review and assess the existing non-motorised user (NMU) provision in the vicinity of the scheme.
This is to identify opportunities that could be considered for delivery alongside the bypass and associated development.
Stakeholder engagement workshop - 2 November 2021
To get stakeholder input, invitations were sent out to local access groups, parish councils and county councillors to attend a virtual workshop for the Long Stratton Bypass. The purpose was to discuss the NMU provision for the bypass scheme and adjacent proposed residential development, promoted by Norfolk Homes/Norfolk Land.
This workshop consisted of
- A presentation providing an overview of the key milestones reached for the scheme
- Discussions on the proposed NMU provision for the scheme
- Feedback questionnaire
For the discussion section, the virtual workshop was split into groups, led by a member of the project team. The groups were then able to feedback on their discussions to all members of the meeting. Participants were asked to review the bypass proposals (with and without the associated development) in the context of relevant scheme objectives.
Before the workshops commenced participants had the opportunity to download a feedback questionnaire and the scheme plans via this webpage for review. The team requested that completed questionnaires were returned by 19 November 2021.
The workshop session was very valuable to both the project team and attendees with the responses gained being fed into the WCHAR document and recommendations made for other transport infrastructure schemes in the future if the improvements could not be included as part of the bypass project itself.
