Heartsease Lane walking and cycling improvements

Start: August 2022

Completed: September 2022

Norfolk County Council was awarded £1.2m from the Department for Transport's (DfT) Active Travel Fund. This was to invest in local infrastructure projects that support the promotion of walking and cycling as an attractive and convenient transport mode for shorter journeys.

Part of this funding was used to upgrade and replace the existing Toucan crossing on Heartsease Lane with a fully segregated modern crossing for cyclists and pedestrians. This route serves both the pink and purple pedal-way routes on the Norwich cycling network.

The project also included:

  • New waiting restrictions (double yellow lines) in the vicinity of the Heartsease Lane and Rider Haggard Road junction
  • Pavement and carriageway resurfacing
