Secondary school road safety education courses

Over To You - Your Choice

These sessions will give students the opportunity to act out scenarios which they may face in their everyday lives. These sessions enable the students to visit difficult situations through role play, discussion and debate, but in a safe environment.

The sessions link to Key Stage 3 Drama and the English National Curriculum. The national curriculum for English reflects the importance of spoken language in pupils' development across the whole curriculum - cognitively, socially and linguistically.

Spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing. The quality and variety of language that pupils hear and speak are vital for developing their vocabulary and grammar and their understanding for reading and writing.

Throughout the session's the facilitator will ensure the continual development of the pupils' confidence and competence in spoken language and listening skills and understanding of points made through Drama.

Aims

The sessions will give the pupils the opportunity to explore the choices they will be required to make in life, through role play, discussion and debate with a focus on Road Safety and Active travel.

They will form opinions and learn about the consequences of their decisions and behaviours both for now and for the future.
