What is the Safe places scheme?

Safe places is a scheme for potentially vulnerable young people and adults. It offers Safe places in the community. We are working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary, so if you need help and support when you are out in public, you can go to a Safe place.

What is a Safe place?

A Safe place can be a shop, office, station or public building such as a library. All Safe places will display the Safe places logo.

Find out how your business or organisation can become a Safe place.

How can you find a Safe place?

You can find a Safe place by using the Norfolk Safe place finder website or map.

Who is the Safe places scheme for?

The scheme is for anyone aged 11+ who might feel vulnerable or scared when out in public places. This could be someone with a learning disability, sensory impairment, autism, dementia, mental health issues or physical disabilities.

Anyone can join the scheme and get a Safe places card which you can carry with you. If you are out on your own and encounter a problem or difficulties, you can go to a Safe place and show your card. Someone will help you make a phone call to a friend, a family member or the emergency services.

Being a member of the scheme will give you the confidence to be independent within the community.

If you are in any immediate danger, or need to report a crime which is currently taking place you must call the police on 999.

If you need to report a crime which has happened (to yourself or someone else) and are not in danger call 101.
