Regional identities

Each of the six EXPERIENCE areas has its own unique character.

Each area will have a different appeal to visitors seeking experiential tourism.

Norfolk

Remote, protected wetlands, historic attractions and royal heritage

Kent

Via Francigena Pilgrimage (Canterbury to Rome), coastal cliffs, and known as the ‘Garden of England’

Cornwall (Penzance area)

A wild coastline, smuggling and mining heritage, Celtic/Breton culture and seafood

Pas-de-Calais

Seasonal produce, heritage churches, sand dunes and military history

Brittany (Baie de Morlaix and Côtes d’Armor)

Remote coastline, seafood, crepe and cider, Breton culture and castles

Compiègne

Hunting and fishing, a forest, Napoleonic residences and military history

EXPERIENCE is a €23.3 million project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (€16 million) through the Interreg France (Channel) England Programme.

It is led by Norfolk County Council and runs from September 2019 to June 2023.
