How to vote in an election

If it is your first time voting in an election, check out the Electoral Commission website for guidance on the voting process.

Once registered, you can cast your vote in an election in three ways:

  • In person at the polling station: A poll card will be sent to you stating where you should vote and when the polling station will be open
  • By post: Any voter can decide to vote by post instead of voting at the polling station.  Visit the GOV.UK website for details on how to obtain a postal vote
  • By proxy: Under certain circumstances you can appoint someone to vote on your behalf.  You will normally need to provide evidence of your entitlement for a proxy vote
