MOBI-MIX project
MOBI-MIX is a €3m project that will pave the way for more shared transport to reduce carbon emissions.
It is aimed at increasing the uptake of low-carbon transport in five areas across Europe, including Norfolk, by making it cheaper, more sustainable and more accessible.
Norfolk County Council is collaborating with the private sector to encourage more shared transport options in urban areas such as cars, bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters, all for hire.
The aim is to cut the number of cars, thereby lowering CO2 levels and easing congestion.
The introduction of shared transport has seen rapid popularity but also presented unexpected problems in many countries.
MOBI-MIX will address these by working closely with the private sector and collaborating on cutting-edge research among its partner organisations from the UK, France, Belgium and The Netherlands.
Partners include cities with experience of longer established shared transport schemes and experts on new technologies and the use of shared transport.
Although it will not buy vehicles, MOBI-MIX will gather feedback and evaluate schemes that encourage people to shift away from owned transport. The learning will help shape local strategies on future transport schemes and the role of technology, such as apps that offer route planning, hiring and payment.
The project is co-funded by the Interreg 2 Seas Programme with €1.89m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Norfolk has €400,000, of which €240,000 is from ERDF and €160,000 from Norfolk County Council.
