Funding for Armed Forces communities

There are two funds run by the Ministry of Defence which can assist Armed Forces communities; the Covenant Fund and the Aged Veterans Fund.

The Covenant Fund

The Covenant Fund replaces the old Community Covenant Grant Fund and is fully administered by the Ministry of Defence.

It makes available national funding for local projects which strengthen the ties between civilian and military communities.

There are two application routes:

  • Small grants for funding applications up to £20,000
  • Large grants for applications between £20,001 and £500,000

Projects must be able to deliver tangible results and meet the overall aims of the Community Covenant by delivering benefits to both the Armed Forces and civilian communities.

Applications can be submitted by any part of the community – volunteer groups, charities, public bodies etc.

Aged Veterans Fund

The Aged Veterans Fund is also run by the Ministry of Defence nationally and funds projects that support non-core health, wellbeing and social care needs for older veterans (born before 1 January 1950).

Grants of up to £1m are available to lead organisations who will manage, support and ensure the delivery of a strategic portfolio of projects.
