Strategic water resource
As part of our drive to limit the future impacts of climate change, we are considering various physical factors when planning for water resources. Most importantly these include land availability, and climate change risks such as droughts and flooding.
In line with our environmental policy, we are working with partners to ensure that everyone continues to have a clean and plentiful water supply.
We want to make you aware of our upcoming water projects to:
- Encourage higher water efficiency among all users
- Support water companies in continuing to deliver safe, clean drinking water
Norfolk water projects
We have previously undertaken two campaigns in order to encourage people to save water. Our water conservation page provides information on how you can save water at home. The CATCH project offered free water butts and rain water planters to make better use of rainwater instead of fresh water.
Water Resources East - Norfolk water strategy programme
We are working in partnership with Water Resources East, Anglian Water and The Nature Conservancy to prepare a strategy to ensure continuing fresh water supply. Norfolk is experiencing a growing demand on its water resources. This is in combination with climate change related flooding incidents, and potential water shortages.
The main objectives of the programme are to:
- Secure long-term water resources for all users
- Protect the environment
- Showcase Norfolk as an exemplar for collaborative water management
- Establish a water fund for Norfolk, the first of its kind in the UK
Fens reservoir project
The Fens reservoir is a strategic water resource being proposed by Anglian Water. It would support supply to both Anglian Water and Cambridge Water customers. Find out more about the Fens reservoir project on the Anglian Water website.
Lead Local Flood Authority
Norfolk County Council, as Lead Local Flood Authority, is a statutory consultee on all planning applications for major developments. Find advice and guidance concerning major developments.
