Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way in Norfolk

You can view an interactive map of Public Rights of Way throughout Norfolk online.  This is not the Definitive Map.  The Definitive Map may be viewed by a left click on the Interactive Map and then selecting 'View Public Rights of Way Definitive Map'.

View the Definitive Statements. The Definitive Statements should be read in conjunction with the Definitive Map.  Any questions please contact the Legal Orders and Registers Team at legalordersandregisters@norfolk.gov.uk.

On the map you can:

  • Move around Norfolk by dropping a pin, clicking and dragging the map, using your keyboard arrow keys, using the tools on the map, or by using the search option to enter an address / postcode or place name to zoom to
  • Print off or save a map
  • Find out more information about the access eg Link through to other websites or find out if it is a public right of way or permissive access
  • Contact the relevant organisations with any comments or queries
  • View the Definitive Map

The information on the map includes:

  • Registered public rights of way (public footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic)
  • County Soft Roads (public roads that are not surfaced).  These usually have the character of a 'green lane' and provide useful links in the countryside access network for walkers, cyclists and horseriders
  • Areas of land freely accessible to the public on foot including official 'Open Access Land' and woodlands open through the Woodland Trust

This information has been provided to assist with the location of paths and ways featured on the Definitive Map, which together with the Definitive Statement, form the legal register of Public Rights of Way.

The Definitive Map and the Statement can be viewed at County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2SG during normal office hours. For further information or to make an appointment contact 0344 800 8020 and ask for the Definitive Map Team. It is recommended that formal searches are still made to establish whether any registered public rights of way affect prospective property or land purchases.

In addition, enquiries can also be made to find out whether there are any formal applications for registration of Public Rights of Way affecting the same property or land.
