Return to adults' social work

A group of adults meeting

There are many reasons why people move away from social work or stop practicing, and many reasons why people decide the time is right to return.

Maybe you've taken a career break. Maybe you've only been out of practice for a short while. Maybe you chose another career direction some time ago and now feel ready to come back. Maybe you've never worked in a statutory role.

We are happy to work with you to devise a bespoke way for you to return to practice. Everyone is different and will be returning from a different starting point.

If you need to re-register with  Social Work England  (SWE), talk to us about the opportunity for you to be employed as an assistant practitioner while you build up the skills and knowledge required before re-registering.

Once you have your registration, you can be employed as a level 2 social worker within the team.

Newly re-registered social workers will get dedicated support from their team and allocated a Norfolk Institute Practice Excellence (NIPE) practice consultant for up to six months. You will agree a tailored development plan so you can work on areas where you might need to gain more skills or experience.

If you don't need to re-register but have qualms about returning to social work and want to know what support will be available, talk to us about your career so far and your ambitions. We will be able to advise on opportunities available and look at a bespoke programme of learning.

Whatever team you enter, you'll have the support of your colleagues and a great team manager, regular supportive and reflective supervision on an individual basis and opportunities to join team meetings and reflective practice sessions, which are part and parcel of social worker life at Norfolk County Council.

Relocation fees and a £2,000 welcome bonus are available for qualified level 2 social workers who are already registered with Social Work England and return to work at Norfolk County Council.

This is a great time to become a social worker within our Adults Social Service teams and return to a fulfilling career in a supportive, caring environment.
