Norfolk's towns

Our county’s market and coastal towns are thriving centres for their surrounding communities.

Great Yarmouth is a traditional seaside town enjoying a renaissance, thanks to its strategic importance to the offshore energy industry.   The borough has some of the most affordable house prices in Norfolk, with a large amount of investment committed to the town over the next few years.  Yarmouth boasts a wide sandy beach, easy access to the Norfolk Broads and a bustling market famed for the quality of its chips.

King’s Lynn has a proud history as a major seaport dating back to the Middle Ages. Many of the timber-framed buildings from this period have survived.  It also has a lively cultural scene, with two theatres, two museums, a cinema and an annual arts festival. Lynn has excellent rail and road links with the rest of the UK.

Holt in north Norfolk is perfect for you if you love gastropubs, delicatessens and independent shops.  The town has a wealth of Georgian architecture and is well known for its antique shops.

South and west Norfolk are also peppered with historic market towns.  Highlights include:

  • Fakenham, with its horse racing and agricultural heritage
  • Wymondham, with its grand abbey and charming centre
  • Diss, set around a pretty mere and on a direct rail route to London
