The Second World War is often thought of as a period in which a night at the pictures offered the prospect of escape to Britons, but was this possible when cinemas themselves, and the towns and cities in which they were located, came under threat from enemy bombers? This talk by Richard Farmer will discuss what happened to British cinemas and British cinemagoers during the Blitz. Book your spot at this free talk by emailing 2admemorial.lib@norfolk.gov.uk or call 01603774747. All welcome. Feel free to bring in drinks and/or cold food. The Spring Lectures are every Thursday from April 25th to May 30th on a variety of topics relating to British and American life. In this talk, George McKay will introduce his current work on jazz music and disability, from two specific perspectives. First, he will explore ways in which early jazz reception in the 1920s thought of the new music and dance sweeping the US and Europe as disabled and even disabling. Second, he will consider the musical careers of key jazz musicians with disabilities, inviting us to think of jazz as an enabling musical practice. Book your spot at this free talk by emailing 2admemorial.lib@norfolk.gov.uk or call 01603774747. All welcome. Feel free to bring in drinks and/or cold food.
