Calculate your contribution to care costs
Our Online Contribution Calculator will help you tell us what we need to know to give you a fair and accurate financial assessment.
Our Online Contribution Calculator will help you tell us what we need to know to give you a fair and accurate financial assessment.
Depending on what you need to tell us, it should take 20-30 minutes to fill out.
There's guidance in the calculator to help you understand what you need to put in each section.
Completing your calculation will normally follow these steps:
1. Gather documentation
Before you begin, you may find it helpful to gather information about your finances.
You'll also need your National Insurance number, which can be found on any letters you may have received from the Department for Work and Pensions.
What the calculator will ask for details of
Savings and assets
Examples of this include:
- Buildings or land you own
- Cash
- Savings in building society accounts and bank current accounts
Other types of savings or assets
Other types of assets or capital you may have, including:
- National Savings Certificates and Ulster Savings Certificates
- Premium Bonds
- Stocks and shares
- Capital held by the Court of Protection or a Deputy appointed by that Court
- Any savings held in deposit accounts or special investment accounts, including half of any accounts held jointly. This includes:
- Savings held in the National Savings Bank, Girobank and Trustee Savings Bank
- SAYE schemes
- Unit Trusts
- Co-operatives share accounts
- Trust funds (in certain circumstances)
Your income
- Your state or occupational pension
- Benefits: examples include Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance (AA), Employment Support Allowance, Universal Credit, Pension Credit
- Any earnings, statutory sick or maternity pay
We'll also need to see details of any essential expenditure, such as council tax, rent or mortgage.
Information about your partner
If you have savings or capital in a joint account with your partner, then you need to tell us about that. Only half the total will count towards your contribution.
You also need to tell us if you're claiming jointly for any of the benefits listed above. We'll count half that amount, less any housing costs.
Your home
The value of your home is only taken into account when you're completing an assessment for residential or nursing care.
We don't take the value of the home you're living in into account when you're completing an assessment for non-residential care.
2. Complete the assessment
The calculator will guide you through what you need to tell us about your finances. You can save your progress at any time by creating an account.
Nothing will be seen by us until you submit the form. If you run into any difficulty, please call our Financial Assessment Team on 01603 222133, Option 2.
3. Submit the form
Once you've completed the calculation, you can submit it to our Financial Assessment Team. They'll check the information you've provided and will contact you to discuss this and the assessment.
In some cases, we may ask to see copies of bills or invoices to support your calculation. We also might need to arrange a home visit before we can confirm the contribution with you.
