North Quay walking and cycling improvements

About

Providing better walking and cycling links between the rail station and the market place, and a widened route for pedestrians and cyclists on North Quay.  Replacing the current staggered pedestrian crossing with an improved crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.  Carriageway resurfacing works.  Reduction in number (from two to one) of southbound lanes passing through the crossing from Fullers Hill roundabout towards Hall Quay – currently these merge into one lane a little further along the road so we expect this to have little impact .

When

From Monday 30 October 2017 for 20 weeks – scheduled to finish by late March 2018.

Why

To make it easier and safer for people to get between the station and town centre on foot or by bike, and improving the environment along the way.  Encouraging use of the rail station by visitors and residents.

Likely disruption

A reduction in the number of carriageway traffic lanes during construction whilst maintaining two-way traffic flows where possible, so delays are likely.  Some of the adjacent/adjoining side roads will be temporarily closed during the construction works, although access will be maintained where possible.
