What happens next

All the following steps need to be completed to enable a County Deal for Norfolk to proceed:

On 17 January 2023, the Full Council discussed the deal and then Cabinet decided to progress it.
Consultation took place from 6 February to 20 March.
On June 5 the Cabinet agreed to submit the County Deal consultation findings to the Government.
If so, the Full Council will be asked in December 2023 whether they support the move to an elected leader and cabinet system of governance.
In spring 2024, Parliament will decide whether to approve the 'statutory instrument' required to let the County Deal for Norfolk proceed.

Our public consultation has now closed and, as mentioned above, the consultation results were considered by Cabinet on June 5.

64 per cent agree with the proposal for Norfolk to have control of money devolved from the Government
65 per cent agree with the proposal to move the adult education budget from Government to Norfolk County Council
60 per cent agree with the proposed change to create a stronger local business voice for Norfolk
55 per cent agree with plans to open up housing and employment sites in Norfolk
50 per cent agree with plans for an elected leader and cabinet system of governance - 19 per cent didn't express a view and 31 per cent disagree
57 per cent agree with the principles of devolution and the benefits it brings to Norfolk
