End point assessment

The end point assessment is the show case of competency for the apprentice across all the knowledge, skills and behaviours.

This will include:

  • Multiple choice online knowledge test
  • 60 questions around real life scenarios 
  • Professional discussion
  • Carried out by an independent assessor

Duration

The duration of the Adult Care worker Apprenticeship is 12 months. It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure every apprentice is given 20% of their paid hours as time to learn.

Qualification

Apprentices may be required to take Functional Skills maths and English at Level 1 if they do not already hold the equivalent GCSE grade 2-9 or (old system A* - E). They will be required to take Level 2 English and maths tests prior to completion of the apprenticeship.

Industry-specific requirements

Undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting. The individual must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate. The Care Quality Commission expect that providers that employ healthcare assistants and social care support workers follow these standards to make sure new staff are supported, skilled and assessed as competent to carry out their roles.

Job role

Adult Care workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible.

The roles associated with this apprenticeship can be varied but are likely to include:

  • Care assistant
  • Care worker
  • Support worker
  • Relief team worker
  • Home care support worker

Delivery

To help apprentices, there will be a variety of ways they will learn:

  • Workplace learning
  • One to one support from assessor to apprentice
  • Online learning environment to support learning throughout the apprenticeship
  • Professional and recognised qualification (Level 2 Diploma in Care)
