Industry-specific requirements

Undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting.

The individual must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate. The Care Quality Commission expect that providers employing healthcare assistants and social care support workers follow these standards to make sure new staff are supported, skilled and assessed as competent to carry out their roles.

End point assessment

The end point assessment is the show case of competency for the apprentice across all the knowledge, skills and behaviours. This will include:

Multiple-choice online knowledge test

Sixty questions around real life scenarios. 

Professional discussion

Carried out by an independent assessor.

Duration

The duration of the Lead Adult Care apprenticeship is typically 18 months. The minimum duration on programme before an apprentice can complete is 12 months. It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that every apprentice is given 20% of their paid hours as time to learn.

Qualification

The apprentice may be required to take Functional Skills maths and English at Level 2 if they do not already hold the equivalent GCSE grade 4-9 or (old system A*-C).

Job role

Lead Adult Care Workers have responsibility for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, working independently, responsibly and solving problems.

The roles associated with this apprenticeship can be varied but are likely to include:

  • Care officer
  • Care supervisor
  • Senior care worker
  • Relief team leader
  • Community development worker

Delivery

To help the apprentice, there will be a variety in the ways they will learn.

  • Workplace learning
  • One to one support from assessor to apprentice
  • Online learning environment to support learning throughout the apprenticeship
  • Professional and recognised qualification (Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care)
