Active Travel Fund phase 4

In January 2023 we were invited to bid for further capital for schemes to be delivered in 2023/2024.

Our bid was submitted on 24 February 2023 and in May 2023 the Department for Transport awarded £1.975m for the delivery of eight schemes across Norfolk which support the uptake of active travel for everyday trips.

This funding is part of the Governments £2 billion commitment set out in Gear Change to deliver a step change in the provision of active travel and better streets.

We have been working closely with Active Travel England to ensure our proposals are fully compliant with the funding requirements and can confirm the eight schemes that will be taken forward are:

  • Dereham, Quebec Road  - pedestrian crossing
  • Fleggburgh Main Road – pedestrian crossing
  • Brundall The Street – pedestrian crossing
  • Hethersett Back Lane – pedestrian crossing
  • Kings Lynn Edward Benefer Way – segregated toucan crossing
  • Old Hunstanton – shared use cycle path
  • Thorpe St Andrew, St Williams Way/ Ring Road – mandatory cycle lane
  • Sandringham A149 Queen Elizabeth Way - refuge widening

We were also awarded an additional £739k to support the delivery of Phase 3 and a further £100,800 revenue funding for the promotion of active travel initiatives.

All schemes will undergo full public consultation and these pages will be updated as plans are developed.
