Active Travel Fund - phase 3

In June 2021 we were invited to bid for further capital funding for cycling and walking infrastructure schemes to be delivered in 2022/23.

Criteria set by government broadly follows that of phase 2, with the added requirement that all schemes put forward must be aligned with local cycling and walking infrastructure plans (LCWIP).

Our bid was approved internally by delegated decision and submitted to the Department for Transport on 6 August 2021.

Full details of all government requirements and our list of proposals can be downloaded from the box above.

All schemes proposed have been selected based on their alignment with the criteria set, while also balancing rural and urban schemes, and enabling a geographical spread of schemes across the county.

Please note the schemes contained in the proposals list are dependent on confirmation of government funding and all will be subject to full public consultation.

There is no certainty of what level of funding we will receive, so some schemes may not be progressed at this time.

On May 14 2022 The Department for Transport announced £200 million in funding for new cycling and walking schemes across the country which includes £955k for the delivery of three schemes in Norfolk.

We have been working closely with Active Travel England to review our initial proposals to ensure they are fully compliant with the requirements of the funding and we can now confirm the three schemes being taken forward from our original bid are located on:

  • Mile Cross Road, Norwich
  • Jellicoe Road, Great Yarmouth
  • Middletons Road, Gorleston

We will now be working in partnership with Active Travel England to further develop proposals ready for public engagement and consultation in each respective area later this year. We have secured an additional grant of £739000 across the three schemes to ensure high quality Active Travel provision.

This page will be kept up to date with the latest information.
