Progress and delivery
Children's Services is the lead partner in a multi-agency partnership working to embed restorative practices across services to children, young people and the families, the communities in which they live and within Norfolk schools, as well as leading on the delivery of restorative approaches training and interventions.
There has been significant progress since 2010 and the benefits of restorative approaches have been shown in a number of local arenas including:
- Criminal justice
- Education
- Communities
- Social care
The outcomes that have been experienced as a consequence of restorative activity in the county, have prompted us to announce our commitment to becoming a restorative authority.
These outcomes include:
- Reduction in looked after children (LAC) in the youth justice system
- Reduction in police call-outs to children's residential homes
- Reduction in school exclusions
- Improved school attendance rates
- Improved school attainment
- Reduction in persistent absentees
- Improved victim satisfaction rates
- Reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour
- Empowered communities
- Reduction in first-time entrants to the youth justice system
- Improved communication
- Improved consistency in managing conflict
To support the development of restorative approaches in Norfolk, a county-wide and cross-organisational restorative approaches strategy has been developed.
