Become a Member of Youth Parliament

Group of young people talking

As a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), you represent the young people in your area of Norfolk. You'll also be part of the UK Youth Parliament.

You will share young people's views on a local, regional and national level. You will have the chance to speak to decision makers in Norfolk about the issues that matter to you.

MYPs are elected every two years. Young people in Norfolk vote for their local MYP through a democratic process.

In February 2026, schools across Norfolk will hold elections, where students can vote for the candidate that best represents them. If you get the most votes, you become the Member of Youth Parliament in your area.

What does an MYP do?

You'll find out what the issues and concerns are for young people in your area, and you will then voice their views.

MYPs get involved in a variety of events, projects and campaigns. You'll hold debates, make speeches, and ensure decision makers listen to young people.

You'll meet with government ministers, government departments and other MYPs across the UK. Together, you'll discuss the issues raised in the UK Youth Parliament manifesto. This manifesto looks at the issues affecting young people across the UK.

What can I get involved in as a MYP?

You'll get to attend events and meetings both in the region and across the UK to campaign on the issues chosen. You'll regularly meet with other MYPs in Norfolk and beyond.

Norfolk Youth Parliament meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of the month. We can support with transport to help you get there. It is expected you will come to most of these sessions.

You'll also get the opportunity to:

  •  Attend local meetings and work to make change in Norfolk.
  • Attend residentials with young people from across the UK
  • Take part in an annual debate in the House of Commons
  • Improve your CV
  • Make friends

Who can apply

Any 11-18-year-olds can stand or vote in the MYP election. You don't need any previous experience to apply, just a passion to make change and represent your peers. We will support you to build a campaign that:

  • Encourages other young people to vote for you
  • Helps you think about how you can make a positive difference
