Open Library gives you access to your local library even when it is unstaffed. Find out more about Open Library.

Monday to Friday:8 to 10am - Open Library access
10am to 7pm - Library is staffed

Saturday: 8 to 10am - Open Library access 10am to 4pm - Library is staffed

Sunday: 10am to 4pm - Open Library access

You can return items when the library is closed using the blue box outside the main entrance. Please make sure that books drop into the box completely and aren't left sticking out.

Services at Thetford Library

The Duleep Singh Collection

Thetford Library houses the Duleep Singh Collection donated by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh. The collection consists of books about Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia, directories, poll books and sales catalogues of county estates from the early 20th century. The Elveden Views, a photograph album of the Duleep Singh family, stands out as one of the most important items in the collection.

The collection can be viewed by appointment during staffed hours.

The Thomas Paine Collection

The collection includes the personal library of Ambrose G. Barker that was left to the town of Thetford in 1963. Also on permanent loan is the library of the Thomas Paine Society and additional items bought by the library service. The collection contains his published works, criticisms, books about his life and times and ephemera, such as tokens and correspondence.

The collection can be viewed by appointment during staffed hours.
