Early years pupil premium (EYPP)

The early years pupil premium (EYPP) is additional funding that a childcare provider can claim on behalf of your three or four-year-old child. Childcare providers can claim an additional £300 per year, if your child meets certain eligibility criteria. This money will be spend on enriching your child's education with extra resources, equipment or experiences.

How EYPP funding can help your three or four-year-old child

Extra funding will help your child to:

  • Benefit from extra resources and equipment suited to their needs
  • Enjoy a range of new play, learning and activity experiences
  • Be prepared for starting school

Check if your child is eligible

If you receive one of the following benefits, your childcare provider may be entitled to claim funding for you child:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income related employment support allowance
  • Child tax credit (providing you are not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working tax credit run-on, paid four weeks after you stop qualifying for working tax credit
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of the state pension credit
  • Universal Credit

Or if your child:

  • Has been looked after by us (the local authority) in care for at least one day
  • Has been adopted from care
  • Has left care through a special guardianship

How to claim

If you think you qualify, it's quick and easy to claim.

Talk to your childcare provider. They will check if you can get the additional funding for your child. They will apply for the funding.

How we make sure the money your childcare provider claims, is spent on your child

When Ofsted inspects your childcare provider, they will check to see that the early years pupil premium is helping your child to learn and develop and get ready for school.
